Broccoli

I hope that you must have heard of the vegetable Broccoli which is also known as Brassica Oleracea or Brassica italica. The latter two are the names which most of us are not familiar. This vegetable is full of nutritional values also Broccoli has amazing ability of therapeutic powers. Normally women eat this vegetable as men don't like it also Broccoli is used to fight against Breast Cancer for women. Broccoli is you can say cousin of Cauliflower, which is also full of mineral and vitamins deposit.
Let us digg some more on the Term Broccoli. The Broccoli vegetable is grown in Calabria, Italy, so italy is the home land of Broccoli. The word Broccoli comes from the Iltalian language "brachium" which stands for "branch or Arm". In the 8th century when there was the Roman Empire was on it's full rise, Broccoli was very famous vegetable in Roman Empire, later when immigrants from Italy came to America they also brought this gift to the America. It was in year of 1920's when the first plantation of Broccoli took place in California. Every individual who love's himself and takes care of his or her health, loves to eat Broccoli.

As I mentioned in the start that Broccoli is full of nutrition's, so let's see what these nutritions really are. If we take 100 grams of broccoli, it contains almost 25grams of calories. Other than this it contains

1. Iron
2. Magnesium
3. Zinc
4. Different vitamins including C, B1, B6, B2, E, K, A.
5. Also it contains Omega 3 fatty acids which are normally found in Fish oil.
6. Fiber.
7. Potassium

Due to these valuable minerals and vitamins. Broccoli must be micro waved or sprouts should be steamed, in this way the whole nutrient value will remain safe.

According to the research which was published in the "American Journal of Epidemiology" , there it was mentioned clearly that Broccoli helps to reduce the Coronary heart disease. Also if you have Liver problem like Hepatitis of any kind, Broccoli is very useful in this case as it helps detoxification by boosting it up. Making our immune system strong and also prevents from various infections. If you have any kind of problem in stomach whether it could be stomach pain, indigestion, burning of stomach, intestine problems, use Broccoli as it is useful in stomach problems.
Broccoli is also anti-cancer agent as it has been proved by the scientists at University of Johns Hopkins according to them Broccoli contains sulforaphane which found in abundant quantity in this vegetable and element helps fight cancer.

So every women should use Broccoli as it is anti-cancer agent and I say that men must also use this vegetable as it is full of nutrition.

HIV/AIDS Treatment A Breakthrough

Today I was reading on HIV/AIDS treatment and I found a fascinating news about the new treatment. There was a conference which was held in Chicago, the name of conference was "Inter-science Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy". 


According to the researchers they said that they have found a way to protect the T-Cells through cell based therapy, when HIV/AIDS virus attacks the human body it's primary target is T-cells. 


Scientists have found a way to protect the T-cells from HIV/AIDS virus. What I have found is that the CEO of Sangamo's who is Edward says in these words "The data are very encouraging" and I hope so it's the case :).

In the world there are lots of home made remedies, some remedies work some don't work. So I have created a list which can help to understand that weather which home remedy works or not. So here we go :)

1. America: Chicken Soup To Fight Cold

When ever it's cold many Americans go for Chicken soup and Americans believe that chicken soup helps to fight cold. But is it really that effective or just a myth ? In Japan when ever one catches cold or flu, they boil 2/3cup of water then crushed ginger is added along with 2 teaspoons of sugar also sometimes ginger roots are also added but in sliced form. According to Dr. Kemper he says that Ginger has the ability of circulation which in turn can help the body to get rid of cold more rapidly. But there is another added benefit of drinking Ginger Tea or just taking ginger, according on one study which is of Iranian study found that those women who had nausea and problem of vomiting it, taking Ginger in the amount of 1000 mg per day decreased their illness by more than 50%.

4. China: Egg To Cure Headaches

In China when ever one gets headaches or wants to get rid of headaches forever. Chinese say that if you take three eggs and boil them, take one boiled egg and remove it's shell put the egg in a cotton made handkerchief, then rub this egg on head and face and keep on doing it till it gets cold, throw that egg away and repeat the procedure. According to Judy Fulop who is a medicine specialist " This method seriously frustrates me" as there is no positive finding on this one. So headaches don't go away with this method.

5. Spain: Garlic Tea With Lemon And Honey To Fight Cold

According to Dr. Kemper this tea can help fight cold effectively as lemon is rich in vitamin C, garlic is full of antibacterial power and third honey can sooth the effect of cold.

Hepatitis A, B, C

Hepatitis is a disease, where virus attacks only liver and as a result causing inflammation of liver. When a person is diagnosed with Hepatitis A,B,C which ever it may be, a fear comes in mind. There is at the moment no cure for Hepatitis but only treatments are available which can suppress the infection. I myself was diagnosed with Hepatitis A, I got my self scared lots of question started to pop up, for which I had no answers. There are lots of things which I learnt during this disease in terms of treating this disease. I want to share my personal experience with you so that it will help anyone who has hepatitis, and what to do when you get hepatitis.

1. Don't be afraid when you get diagnosed with this Hepatitis.

2. Diet is most important factor in getting rid of this disease. The specific food items which I found to be useful are:

a) Boiled Rice.

b) Boiled Vegetables.

c) Small quantities of fruits but no Mango included.

d) Boiled water, drinking after each hour.

e) Glucose D mixed with water, two times a day.

f) If you can get Real honey from the farm then this real honey is a must have, because I take it 1 table spoon in the morning and one in the night, this has helped me sooth the stomach pain, and indigestion is getting better. Try it you won't regret it but there is only one condition that Honey must be real no added, artificial flavors in it.

There are two basic kinds of Honey. One is produced in summer where bees make honey from fruits and the second one is produced in Spring, when bees make honey from flowers. Honey made from flowers is of superior kind, both kinds are effective, but I am using Honey made from flowers.

g) Don't eat meat but you can take Chicken only.

i) You can take milk once in a day as it also contains fats, so only one glass is good.

j) If you can get natural sugar cane juice, it's natural glucose, and trust me it's very good for liver.

k) Some times you can do fast for 12 hours this helps your stomach to relax and in my case fasting becomes
more easy as I have lost my appetite.

l) Don't eat any fried foods.

3) Try to rest as much as you can as in this disease a person can't eat much so if you are doing physical work it will make you weak and can cause sever fatigue, joint pains. So be-careful with physical work.

4) The period in which hepatitis goes away is from 6 to 9 months and it can go away earlier provided that if diet is maintained. I am on 3-week when the Hepatitis was found in me, but I using the given diet pattern I am feeling much better.

5) Take Lemon-tea some time, but I drink it 2-3 times a day as lemon and hot-water helps in digestion.

6) Don't take tea ( the one with sugar and milk in it ).

I gave a test at lab of ALT SERUM level and you know what I go to point 10 , the scale in which ALT is considered normal is 0-42, so i came at 10 which is very perfect and I am very happy because this diet pattern has helped me to recover in three weeks.

I also read the Surah Fatihah which is the First surah of Quran, I read it because it is known as the Cure. As I read it with the intention of healing Hepatitis I started to feel better as soon as I finished the Surah. So I must say that you should also read this Surah as it has Healing power. If you don't want to read it, it's ok, the above diet pattern helps to fight Hepatitis effectively.

Kidneys Which Guard Our Blood

Kidneys are most important part of our body. Kidneys purify blood and maintain chemical balance in the body. Kidneys have the ability to remove toxins and extra water in the form of Urine. Kidneys resemble to Black eye pea or bean and is almost equal to closed hand in the form of punch. Kidneys lie almost in the middle of back and below the rib cage. It's a very perfect reprocessing machine. In one day kidneys purify 200 quart of blood from toxin and extra water.

Blood gets toxicated because of food and continous work in cells. When our body gets the required food from blood, then remanings are added as discharge to blood. If kidneys don't remove this toxin, this toxin becomes poison for the body.

Kidneys filter the blood through small holes called Nephron. Each individual kidney contains 1 million Nephron's. Inside each Nephron there is web of blood tubes called Glomerulus, which is connected to Tubule ( which collects urine ). Blood is purified by passing through this complex mechanism. First that matter enters in the kidney which can be sent back to body after pufication. Kidneys gather phosphorus, sodium, potassium and sends it back to the body. So in one way kidneys keep balance of chemicals in body.

Other than purification kidneys also release two kinds of hormones known as:

1. Erythropoietin ( which is responsible for red blood cell formation )
2. Calcitriol ( Which is form of vitamin D and keeps balance of calcium in bones and keeps chemical balance in body )

Working of Kidneys

If you are healthy that means your kidneys are also working hundred percent fine. But human doesn't need to be 100 percent for working. Some individuals are born with only one kidney, some donate there one kidney. In each case the body functions perfectly.

The problem arises when kidneys start doing work at or below 25 percent. If this goes to 15 percent the body cannot survive unless it is attached to dialysis. Transplantation has to done at this stage.

In most of kidney diseases Nephrons are the number one target of infections, due to which kidneys cannot purify to there perfection. Infections normally attack both kidneys. If an individual has sugar and blood pressure then that individual is at risk of kidney infection.

In Diabetics, glucose does not gets dissolved fully in blood, and this glucose then harms Nephron. If the level of glucose remains less in blood, kidneys can be remained safe. High blood pressure on the other hand effects the small veins in kidneys due to which kidneys can't perform well.

Glomerulus Disease 

There are some diseases that only effect Glomerulus due to which when patient urinates blood also comes along with urine. In this condition patient has to keep his/her blood pressure in control.

Why Kidneys get infected

If you eat poisonous matter or get hit hard by accident, you can get kidney infection. Some times taking medicine for a long period of time can also cause kidney infections. According to research those medicine which contain Aspirin, Acetaminophen, ibuprofen etc are dangerous for kidneys.

During accident if large amount of blood is discharged from body or you got hit very hard, this can immediately effect the proper working of kidneys.

Symptoms of Kidney Infections

If you get kidney infection at first you will not notice it at all you will feel yourself perfectly fine. But as time passes by, if you feel that urine is coming too much or less, you feel dizzy all day, or feel very sleepy all the time, feel tired, you don't feel hungry, if you eat you feel that if you might vomit. Your hand and feet get swollen. You feel very bad head aches for some time when you get up from sleep. These all are symptoms of kidney infection.

Medical Tests of Kidneys

There are different types of tests to check whether kidney is infected or not.

1. Creatinine Test ( creat ).
2. Creatinine Clearance (CrCl).
3. Urea.
4. Glomerular Filtration Rate  ( GFR and eGFR).
5. Haemoglobin Test (Hb).
6. Platelets test (plats).
7. Albumin. 
8. White cell count test.
9. PTH which stands for Parathyroid Hormone.


How to fight Kidney Infections


If the conditions of kidney is very bad, unfortunately kidneys then cannot be repaired. You have to do dialysis or transplantation. 


If kidney infection is in early stages, then through different medicines and methods kidneys can be kept healthy. Also one has to make sure that paralysis and heart attack are in control, because these can cause kidney infection. If patient is diabetic, keep the sugar level controlled and before taking any medicine ask doctor. 


The Play of Diet


Kidney patient should know that daily necessities can worsen the infection. Like protein, which is vital part for normal body functions. Infected kidneys cannot remove proteins from toxins, so normally doctors advise there patients to avoid protein so that kidneys have to work less. But protein has to be maintained by body so ask alternative foods that can provide protein. 


Patient should avoid smoking, avoid salt as it increases the blood pressure. Keep balance of potassium in body. Healthy kidneys can remove excessive potassium from body, but infected kidneys cannot perform this function very well, so be careful. 


If kidneys stop working completely


This condition is called Uremia, in which kidney stop working completely. So patient has to do dialysis in this case. There are two types of dialysis namely:


1. Hemodialysis
2. Peritonial dialysis


If patient is lucky enough he can get donation of kidney which is known as kidney transplantation.  So always drink plenty of water so that kidneys keep working properly.

Responsibilities Of Patient

Whenever a patient goes to doctor, he/she has some basic responsibilities that must be kept in mind. Just like doctor has responsibility, similarly patients also have responsibilities. If you want to know about these responsibilities then keep on reading.


1. If you have an appointment with the doctor, then come on schedule. It's better to come fifteen minutes before the actual time. If by any reason you cannot come at specified time, tell the receptionist about the situation. This is to make sure that no one gets frustrated by your late coming. Many doctors don't give appointments because they know that patient will not come on time or if patient does manages to come (not on time), patient tries to get first to the doctor, which is kind of frustrating for others.

2. Doctor will ask you about your condition, which is known as taking history. You should go prepared for this. Which condition started when, you should know about it. If you think that you might forget about some specific condition take a note about it. If there is surgery done on you, you should tell this about doctor.

3. You should keep record of your previous disease and of those current diseases. So that when you show your medical record to doctor, doctor can easily diagnose you. Keeping track of things is a very good habit.

4. What ever medications you are taking. Tell them to doctor, so that doctor knows what you are up to. If the  name of medicine is difficult to remember write down the name of it.

5. Whatever doctor suggests, understand it thoroughly. If there are foods that you have to avoid do not hesitate to ask.

6. Act fully to what doctor has prescribed to you. Don't change your doctor or prescription, if any one of your family members or friends say to do so. If you keep on going to same doctor, the doctor can understand your disease much better rather then changing the doctor and starting again from scratch.

7. If doctor asks to meet you after some days of prescription, then you should follow as the doctor says.

These are some important points that every patient should keep in mind when going to see doctor. These are responsibilities of a patient, which every patient should know.

Scoliosis Back Pain

What is Scoliosis ?

Scoliosis is a medical term for spine, where spine takes the form of "S" or "C", it's bent toward left or to the right, it can be outward or can be inward, in any way spine is not straight anymore. If you go to Mayoclinic website, at there doctors define it as being abnormal curvature of spine.

Exercises for Scoliosis 

There are different exercises designed to help and end the scoliosis pain.  These can be stretching exercises, yoga, lower, middle and upper back exercises.

1. Yoga 

Yoga is considered to be one of the best exercises in scoliosis. Yoga helps our body to be stretched, and this stretching is the basis for bringing spine to it's original form.

These yoga exercise include Supine leg out ( In case you don't know what supine is below is an example of supine form ), Supine knee twist, making back passively in the position of arc, the crocodile twist ( you lie on your back on the floor, then you twist half of your lower body to the right and then to the left ). Check out the second diagram.



If you regularly do these exercises in the morning or evening, these yoga exercises will sure relieve your scoliosis pain and can bring your spine to it's normal position.

Exercise for Upper Back

There are different types of upper back exercises that help to correct the shape of spine. All you have to do is to sit in a chair, bring your forearms along with elbows in front of you, place them on your thighs. Now staying in this position start to bring the forearms backwards, and at the same time squeeze your back making the form of an arc. Stay in this position for one minute, then come back to initial position. Make ten repetitions of this exercise.

Exercise for Middle and Lower back

Come into the form of supine, then bring your knees in such a way that knees point upward. Attach your back to the floor as firmly as you can, stay in this position not more the twenty seconds then come back to supine mode, do this ten times, this will help strengthen your lower and middle back muscles.

Live Long By Having Mediterranean Diet

All of us must be familiar with the word "Meditate" where you try to understand yourself by sitting in a quiet room. But very less know about Mediterranean diet, and if you are woman and you are on Mediterranean diet you can live upto 15 years more and if you are a male you can expect to live 8 years more. 
So what is Mediterranean diet ? 

Mediterranean diet is a combination of vegetables ( any vegetable), nuts, fish, meat, olive oil, fruits along with very small amount of alcohol. If you are doing excercise daily and if you combine this basic food combination to your daily diet provided the condition that you don't smoke you can expect to live longer as much as 15 years. According to the study which was done in Netherlands at the university of Maastricht under the supervision of Piet van den brandt, who is epidemiology professor, observed almost 120,000 men and women together whose age ranged from 55 to 69 years during the year of 1986 and yes this was ten year study period. He said that " If you choose to live healthy by taking a healthy life style then this has profound effects on health as well as age. The Mediterranean diet effects were more visible in women than the men." The effects were 15 years more in women and 8 years more in men, which is very significant effect. So now the decision is yours that which one do you choose a long healthy life or short unhealthy life by taking all the garbage of fast food ? The choice will always be yours. So in my opinion stay healthy by eating healthy food items.

A new hope to treat Parkinson Disease

According to new study which is published in FASEB journal, nicotine actually helps in preventing Parkinson's disease, nicotine works by making a shield around Dopamine neurons found in brain. This is a break through because it will help to unravel the new treatments. According to the Patrick Michel, who is the joint author of institute du cerveau et de la Moelle Epiniere, Hospital de la Salpetriere, which is in Paris said that " This study will raise the hope to help the patients with Parkinson disease at an early stage or yet even at that stage where this disease is not apparent."

So in my opinion we should include some amount of nicotine in our diet through the use of coffee or tea, but not through cigarette definetely not through cigarettes. Till then stay healthy by eating healthy foods.

Do You Want To Quit Smoking ?

Those who smoke, once in there life time they do desire that they never had started smoking. Why people smoke ? Through my own personal experience from colleagues, friends, family members. People smoke because they want to get through that "Hard Time". Hard time can be your studies, assignments, night shift job, you want to stay awake, you want a boost in your working, it can be any excuse which makes you to do smoking. According to statistics of smoking, there are nearly seventy percent of all smokers who want to quit smoking. This year 2011 forty percent of total smokers will try to quit smoking, by different methods like using nicotine patches, gums, cold turkey etc. 

Smokers know that quit smoking is very difficult because of the cravings that occur which is very intense that can last up to three months, that makes them believe that it's impossible. One thing that you should keep in mind is that quitting depends on your will power and there is no other way, you can say that there are patches, drugs, nicotine gums to help quit smoking but using these methods comes with very bad side effects that can last up to three to four weeks like you can have very bad nightmares, sleep deprivation. There are electronic cigarettes but FDA is unable to find any side effects of using e-cigarettes so far, but do keep in mind that you are inhaling liquid nicotine into your lungs, whose long term side effects are not known. Fasting is one of the best ways that can help you quit smoking, fasting is based on ones will power and one has to keep him/herself away from any intake for almost fourteen hours. In case of quit smoking this is one of the best methods that can help you a lot, and this is month of Ramadan which is Islamic month, where Muslims do fasting for whole month that includes smokers and non-smokers both. If Muslims can do it why can't you ? 

When you are quit smoking, if you feel stressed take a hot bath, read book, go to gym, do any thing that will help you reduce the stress, these methods will not end the stress but will dramatically reduce your stress. If you get very bad cravings take some coffee or tea that will help cravings out but don't devil in to the habit of drinking coffee as it also contains nicotine.

There are lots of immediate benefits of quit smoking, after twenty minutes of quitting an individual's heart rate comes back to normal. When twelve hours pass by after quitting, carbon monoxide which becomes part of blood when you smoke drops to normal. Your sense of hunger increases after quit smoking. These are some of immediate benefits that you get after quit smoking. So keep your will high this month and stay healthy and energetic by eating healthy foods.

How To Fight Depression

Whether you are doing job with deadlines, doing assignments of university, studying late at nights, coping with colleague, dealing with day to day chores, chances are always there that you will feel depressed due to demands made on you. We do lot's of things to reduce the depression by doing gym, taking medicines, taking coffee, doing dance, but most of the time we don't look at our diet which can help dramatically to reduce our depression after all if you take coffee or tea it helps to reduce depression, right ? So same concept apply's to diet, it has effect to build up muscles, grow fat, make us tall, our hair growth, and even make reduce or end the depression. If you eat meat, fish meat, pulses, eggs, or any other source from where you can get protein this will help you fight the depression. According to Ursula who is chairman of BDA ( British Dietetic Association ), he says that taking tryptophan which is one of basic building blocks of protein can help make your mood better. If you take fish oil, it contains omega-3, which is actually brain's food, those who don't take fish oil get more depression than  who take fish oil.

You Can Beat Gastric, Constipation, Acidity With Just Simple Food

There are lots of individuals which have constant problem of Gastric, Constipation and acidity, and this is a real problem, lot's of doctor tell that this is due to Gallbladder problem and If you can't get recover from medicine than the option comes of removing of Gallbladder which I don't recommend you when there is a solution.
